new combination:
Genidens barbus   (Lacépède, 1803)

This species was listed by López et al. (2003) as Netuma barba (Lacépède, 1803).
Marceniuk & Menezes propose this new combination with Genidens. The distribution of the genus Netuma is restricted by these authors to “marine and brackish waters” in “Eastern Africa, South and southeast Asia, southern New Guinea and northern Australia”.
Marceniuk & Menezes include the following species in the synonymy of Genidens barbus:
- Pimelodus commersonii Lacépède, 1803. No locality.
- Bagrus barbatus Quoy & Gaimard, 1824. Type locality: Río de La Plata, South America.
- Pimelodus versicolor Castelnau, 1855. Type locality: Rio Araguay, Goiás, Brazil.
- Tachisurus upsulonophorus Eigenmann & Eigenmann, 1889. Type locality: Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.
- Silurus marinus Larrañaga, 1923. Type locality: Uruguay.
- Silurus sexdecimradiatus Larrañaga, 1923. Type locality: Uruguay.
