considered a valid species from Argentina:
Characidium borellii (Boulenger, 1895)

type locality:
Argentina, Province of Tucuman, San Pablo. Holotype: MZUTP 2563

remarks:
This species was treated as valid and from Argentina by Pozzi (1945:258) and Ringuelet & Arámburu (1962:35). Ringuelet et al. (1967:188) considered Characidium borellii ‘especie limítrofe’, meaning from neighbouring countries, with San Pablo, Paraguay [and not ‘San Pablo, Tucuman’ !], as type locality. López et al. (1987:20) also listed the species as ‘limítrofe’. In López et al. (2003) it was not listed at all. In CLOFFSCA it was listed as valid and from Argentina. Gery et al. (2001) give as explanation for the wrong type locality that Ringuelet et al. (1967) probably followed a lapsus of Eigenmann.
